4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

The season of spring may have arrived but in Tempe it’s not all warm and cozy outside. Your furnace has been working for months striving to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to make sure you’re giving your furnace some affection. If you hear abnormal noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice a strong gas smell, you almost definitely need furnace repair work and you should call Orangutan Home Services as soon as possible.

Before you jump to the conclusion that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Orangutan Home Services.

  • Check that your thermostat is set to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we have hectic days and life happens, so sometimes it’s easy to overlook the simple fixes. Neglecting to switch over the thermostat can make you think you need furnace repair and installation when really you can remedy the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

On the topic of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially since this switch isn’t one you might look at daily. Most furnaces have built-in delays so make sure when you turn on your furnace you give it a few minutes to get going before panicking about calling our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should swap out your home’s air filters no less than every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and prolong any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for poor performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your family to become sick. Swap your filter to keep both your furnace and your family healthy. You could also schedule yearly maintenance with Orangutan Home Services and have a thorough furnace cleaning as part of your tune up.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Confirm that your circuit breaker that controls your heating system is in the “off” position. If it ends up in the middle position, switch the breaker to the “off” position and then switch back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs could be pricey, so avoid a future issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Orangutan Home Services. However, if you ever do need furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to help you with all your heating needs.
