Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for air conditioning season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioning unit 24/7 to stay comfortable, go ahead and call your air conditioning technician to come out and perform your yearly ac maintenance.
In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are a few other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before summer is officially here to stay.
We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the area around your unit to clear away branches and debris that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the A/C and trim back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping the airway clear can help keep your system running properly.
· Change Your Home’s Air Filters
Orangutan Home Services will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. An unchanged filter accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular A/C system service. Note that a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.
Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.
· Check Alarm Batteries
If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your air conditioner isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your heating and cooling bills.
A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Orangutan Home Services today to make sure your air conditioning system is ready to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and find out about our spring specials on A/C system tune-ups.
