4 Signs it's Time to Replace your Boiler

March 04, 2017

Is your boiler in need of replacing? Orangutan Home Services is here with a few indicators to look for when choosing whether it’s time to buy a new boiler.

Age

If your condensing boiler receives annual maintenance, you can expect it to operate about 15 years or longer. Cast iron boilers can last a lot longer, even up to 50 years with proper maintenance. If your condensing boiler is coming up on 15 years or your cast iron boiler is coming up on 50 years, it may be time to consider an upgrade.

Bills

If your utility bills are going up or you’re having to call an expert about your boiler more frequently, it could be because it’s time to buy a new, more efficient boiler.

Discoloration

If you discover yellow flames on the gas burners and black soot on oil burners it could be a sign that the fuel is not burning correctly and could be generating carbon monoxide. If you notice these issues or have any concerns regarding carbon monoxide in your home, you should call Orangutan Home Services or your gas company as soon as possible.

Comfort

If some of the areas in your home are too cool or too warm and you can’t seem to control them properly or get them comfortable, it could be that your boiler is no longer effective and you may need to look into upgrade options.
